Wishing Upon a Star
Monday March 6, 2006
Since I have moved, which was 4 years ago, I wonder if I made the right decision. Some of the people here don't accept Native Americans. They are rather rude about the whole thing. I often wonder why, what have I done? It's not to say that everybody here does this, just a lot of people do. It's very hurtful, and I sometimes come home from school and don't leave the house. There are days when I pretend to be sick, so I don't have to, yet again, listen to the jokes and taughnts of other people. I try to keep a positive attitude but it gets really hard!

Women of the Dawn I am the hear of my family, I am the center of my community I carry the naiton on my back I carry the life of tomorrow in my soul I rise above the violence Bones heal. Bruises fade. My fear I face The rage I channel to protect myself To protet my children I walk away from the destruction With my Great Creator by my side I am the one who can change the tide I am the one who will say STOP! No more forever For I am the Women of the Dawn I rise with the morning sun Blazing with light, love and hope I hold the future within me.

The sacred fir is one of the most important elements of life. It cooks our food, keeps us warm, gives us light to see in the darkness, and in traditional times kept wild animales out of camp. Even today it is important as it was in traditional times, perhaps even more so. There is even fire within our body, The actions of electrical energy between cells that makes life posible, the fire of life. We have a tendancy to tale fire for granted these days and that truly is a shame. We must honor and respect this sacred element, it is a gift from the Great Spirit. Fire gives us so much more than what I have already mentioned. Sacred fire gives us life sustaining energy from the Sun that grows our food. In Native culture, spiritually, the sacred fire is an oracle, a portal between this world and the spirit worlds. The smoke of the sacred fire carries our prayers up to the Creator when we give prayer offerings. The pit of the fire is a medicine well, the Spirit forces come and go through the gates of this medacine well. The ancestor Spirit voices can be heard when we sit around the sacred fire. This is how we receive sacred songs, and teachings when we fast with the fire. We share and learn these teachings and songs when we sit around the fire and tell and hear stories of our culture. To be a fire tender is one of the most respected and honored postions of Native culture.
